Roque Benavides



Mr. Benavides received his degree in Civil Engineering from the Pontificia Universidad Catolica del Peru, recognized Distinguished Alumni by the same university in 1999. MBA from Henley Management College, Reading University (U.K.). Completed the Management Development Program at Harvard Business School and the Advanced Management Programme at Oxford University.

He has worked in Compañía de Minas Buenaventura since 1977. Between 2001 and 2016 he held the position of General Manager and CEO. Currently, he is Chairman of the Board, role that he assumed in 2010. Mr. Benavides is Director of various companies, such as Sociedad Minera El Brocal S.A.A, Banco de Crédito del Perú and Unión Andina de Cementos S.A.A (UNACEM). President of Confederación Nacional de Instituciones Empresariales Privadas (CONFIEP) for the period 2017-2018. Previously, he held the presidency of said institution in the period 1999-2000. Director of Sociedad Nacional de Minería, Petróleo y Energía (SNMPE) since 1988. He has been President of SNMPE between 1993 and 1995.

He was Presidente of Consejo Empresarial de Negociaciones Internacionales (CENI) for the achievement of the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) with the United States.

Member of the Advisory Board of Administration Faculty of the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Peru. Member of the Board of Directors of Universidad de Ingeniería y Tecnología (UTEC). Vice President of Patronato de la Universidad Nacional de Ingeniería (UNI). Vice President of the Board of Directors of Universidad para el Desarrollo Andino (UDEA). Vice President of Patronato de la Universidad Nacional Federico Villareal. He has been President of the Alumni Asociation of the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Peru (2009-2015).

Recently, received the Distinction for the Centennial of Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú for his outstanding work in the professional practice as a graduate of Civil Engineering of said house of studies. Received the Magisterial Palms in the Degree of Amauta by the Ministry of Education of Peru in July 2011. He was awarded, in May 2011, by the Government of Peru with the Order of Labor in the Grand Officer degree.

In addition, he has been decorated by the governments of Ecuador and Brazil for his participation in the business integration of Peru and Ecuador after the signing of the Peace Treaty between both countries. He has also been decorated by the government of Italy.

He was distinguished as Honorary Doctor by Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos (Lima), Universidad Nacional del Centro del Perú (Huancayo), Universidad Nacional Daniel Alcides Carrión (Cerro de Pasco), la Universidad Científica del Perú (Iquitos), Universidad Particular de Chiclayo, Universidad Privada Antonio Guillermo Urrelo (Cajamarca), Universidad Nacional Federico Villareal (Lima) and Universidad Privada Telesup (Lima). He also received the Order of University Merit of Universidad Nacional Santiago Antúnez de Mayolo (Áncash). Honorary Professor of Universidad Nacional de Moquegua. In 2017 he received the Leadership Award for Lifetime Achievement of the American Chemical Society in Nueva York.
